This mold tends to grow well on cellulose surfaces.  The growth of spores may be less rapid compared to other types of mold

Where does it grow outside?
Often found growing in soil, decaying leaves and grasses.

Where does it grow inside?
Rarely found growing indoors, but will grow on paper given the right conditions. 

Is this "black mold"?
The term black mold (also "toxic black mold") is not scientific but is widely used by the media to usually reference Stachybotrys molds.
