Flooding and E. Coli
Flood events that occur from natural running water (i.e. streams, lakes, rain, etc) do have a strong likelihood of the presence of E. coli and other coliforms. If one comes in contact with this bacteria they can suffer from some health related issues. A simple swab test to identify ecoli presence/absences can easily put some one's mind at ease or clarify if there is a problem during these events in the home/building.
Results are typically ready in 3 days.
Sewage Overflow and Assessment
In events of sewage overflow (i.e toilet overflow, sewer pipe backup,
etc) a sewage assessment is suggested. This is because we are ID'ing 2 specific species of bacteria that are indicators of sewage related bacteria.
This testing also typically takes 3 days.
Disease and E. Coli
E. coli can generally cause several intestinal and extra-intestinal infections such as urinary tract infections, meningitis, peritonitis, mastitis, septicemia and gram-negative pneumonia.
The often harmless E. coli can cause illness either by infection of a bodily cavity where it is not normally found, or by synthesis of a toxin which attacks the body. In the first case, the disease can usually be resolved by use of antibiotics which stop the infection, but in the latter case the effects of the toxin persist after the bacteria have been killed.
